(George Jones / Roger Miller) Gotta get up, gotta get goin', rain or shine, sleetin' or snowin' Nothing can stop me, stop me, stop my loving you Oh Wander through woods, climb a high mountain Love's in my heart like water's in a fountain Nothing can stop me, stop me, stop my loving you Oh Cross the fire, run through river; you'll be the taker, and I'll be the giver I'll give you lovin' oh, lovin' oh, honey that's what I'll do Build a big wall I'd tear into pieces; gotta get to your love and kisses Nothing can stop me, stop me, stop my loving you Can't stop praisin' the day I found you Walk a hundred miles just to be around you Nothing can stop me, stop me, stop my loving you Oh nothing at all nothing in the world can make me stop wanting you to be my girlfriend Nothing can stop me, stop me, stop my loving you Oh Cross the fire, run through river; you'll be the taker, and I'll be the giver I'll give you lovin' oh, lovin' oh, honey that's what I'll do Build a big wall I'd tear into pieces; gotta get to your love and kisses Nothing can stop me, stop me, stop my loving you Oh Cross the fire, run through river; you'll be the taker, and I'll be the giver I'll give you lovin' oh, lovin' oh, honey that's what I'll do Build a big wall I'd tear into pieces; gotta get to your love and kisses Nothing can stop me, stop me, stop my loving you Nothing can stop me, stop me, stop my loving you

(John Prine) Grandpa wore his suit to dinner Nearly every day No particular reason He just dressed that way Brown necktie and a matching vest And both his wingtip shoes He built a closet on our back porch And put a penny in a burned out fuse Grandpa was a carpenter He built houses stores and banks He chain-smoked Camel cigarettes And hammered nails in planks He was level on the level Shaved even every door He voted for Eisenhower 'Cause Lincoln won the war Well, he used to sing me "blood on the saddle" And rock me on his knee And let me listen to radio Before they had TV And went to church on Sunday And take me with him too Stained glass in every window Hearing aids in every pew Grandpa was a carpenter He built houses stores and banks He chain-smoked Camel cigarettes And hammered nails in planks He was level on the level Shaved even every door He voted for Eisenhower 'Cause Lincoln won the war Grandma was a teacher She to school in Bowling Green Traded in a milking cow For a singer sewing machine She called her husband "mister" She walked real tall with pride She used to buy me comic books After Grandpa died Grandpa was a carpenter He built houses stores and banks He chain-smoked Camel cigarettes And hammered nails in planks He was level on the level Shaved even every door He voted for Eisenhower 'Cause Lincoln won the war

Such A Night 04:04
(Mac Rebennack) Such a night, such a night Sweet confusion under the moonlight Such a night, such a night Steal away, the time is right Your eyes met mine, at a glance You let me know that this was my chance I came here with my best friend Jim And here I am, tryin' to steal you away from him Oh, but if I don't do it, you know somebody else will If I don't do it, you know somebody else will If I don't do it, you know somebody else will If I don't do it, you know somebody else will Such a night, such a night Sweet confusion under the moonlight Such a night, such a night Steal away, the time is right You know I couldn't believe my ear and my heart done skipped a beat When you told me to take you walkin' down the street I came here with my best friend Jim Now here I am, tryin' to steal you away from him Oh, but if I don't do it, you know somebody else will If I don't do it, you know somebody else will If I don't do it, you know somebody else will If I don't do it, you know somebody else will Such a night

Ooh La La 03:35
(Ronnie Lane / Ronnie Wood) Poor old Granddad, I laughed at what he said I thought he was a bitter man He spoke of women's ways Well they'll trap you and they use you And before you even know Love is blind and you're too kind Don't ever let it show And I wish that I knew what I know now When I was younger And I wish that I knew what I know now When I was stronger The can-can such a pretty show Gonna steal your heart away But backstage back on earth again You know the dressing rooms is grey Well they come on strong before too long They got you feelin’ like a man But love is blind and you’ll soon will find You're just a boy again And I wish that I knew what I know now When I was younger And I wish that I knew what I know now When I was stronger Well you want her lips, you get her cheek Now you’re wonderin’ where you are And later on you know you’re gonna want some more But she’s twinklin’ with the stars Poor young grandson there's nothing I can say You'll have to learn it just like me You know, and that's the hardest way Ooh la la Ooh la la, la la Ooh la la Ooh la la, la la And I wish that I knew what I know now When I was younger And I wish that I knew what I know now When I was stronger And I wish that I knew what I know now When I was younger And I wish that I knew what I know now When I was stronger Man I wish that I knew what I know now When I was younger And I wish that I knew what I know now When I was stronger And I wish that I knew what I know now When I was younger And I wish that I knew what I know now When I was stronger And I wish

(Adam Dalton) They say chivalry and print are dead And I must find something else instead And love’s a noble pursuit For a man in a red blue suit Well if I saw right through ya to your heart Would I be your man If I got your broke ass car to start What about then If I flew you to Paris overnight We made love in the heavens just for spite Would I be your man Would I be your man If I could jump tall buildings in a single bound Would I be your man If I brought home cats from the local pound Well, what about then If I turned back time to save your life Rid the world of all pain n strife. Would I be your man Would I be your man So if I could bend steel bars with my bare hands. Would I be your man If I spoiled Lex Luthor's best laid plans. Well, what about then If I could freeze the water with my own breath Scare a man bout half to death Would I be your man Would I be your man Look up in the sky, whenever I fly by I've got my eyes on you so honey please be true So if I saw right through you to your heart Got your broke ass car to start Jumped tall buildings in a bound Brought home cats from the local pound Bent steel bars with my bare hands And spoiled Luthor's best laid plans Would I be your man Would I be your man Your Superman Well my home planet's dead So I made earth home instead I'm hoping you'll be mine But if not I'll just die

Valerie 04:43
(Jerome Garcia / Robert Hunter) Hey Valerie, now baby, what's the matter with you? Come on baby, won’t ya tell me true? Went downtown with my pocket knife Cut your other man but I spared his life Hey Valerie, won't you be good to me? Hey Valerie, now baby, what's the matter with you? Come on baby, won’t ya tell me true? Hey now baby, what can I do? I shot my dog 'cause he growled at you Valerie, won't you be good to me? Hey Valerie, what's the matter with me? You know I ain’t never do you no wrong I play the blues nearly all night long Hey Valerie, what's the matter with me? I'd do anything you say I can't understand why you tell me, "Please go away" I ain't afraid of the cold, cruel world outside No Chicken Little runnin' from a fallin' sky Hey Valerie, what's your complaint? I tried to be everything I ain't Hey Valerie, won't you be good to me? You got me down on the knees of my shakin' feet Can't play the blues 'cause for you I drop the beat Hey Valerie, what can we do? When we get old will we be true? Hey Valerie, won't you be good to me? Hey Valerie, won't you be good to me? Hey Valerie, won't you be good to me?

about

Recorded live over the course of two days in October 2018, Small Town Songs was to be the Tennessee Warblers’ debut record of the year 2019. Needless to say, a lot has happened these last four years! But pandemics, life and musical changes aside, it still reflects the essence of what John Beck (Vocals, Mandolin & Fiddle) and Adam Dalton (Vocals & Guitar) set out to do and the adventure they continue to this day.

Not long after the pair wrote their first song, “Restless,” were they blessed with the talents of Dean Marold (Upright Bass) and Charles Butler (Banjo & Dobro). The quartet then began distilling the tunes heard on this song set over many a gig at Nashville’s legendary Sutler Saloon. A mix of originals and covers by the likes of Roger Miller, John Prine, Dr. John, The Faces and Jerry Garcia, the album paints a variety of moods and small town themes that dance across the bluegrass Americana spectrum.

Longtime collaborator Nathan Yarborough (The Mavericks, Leanne Rimes, Mastodon) and Leo Roriz captured the band by bringing their mobile recording unit into the warm wooden walls of Madison, TN’s Bluegrass Compound. Overlooking the Cumberland River, many of the greats have jammed into the wee hours at the cabin’s storied pickin’ parties and it provided a down home vibe and sound a more traditional studio would not have.

Seated together in a circle in the shotgun cabin hall, the band proceeded to host a pickin’ party of their own. Without a plan, they took turns calling tunes from their repertoire and let the tape roll. As a result, Small Town Songs is as close to having the Tennessee Warblers playing in your living room as you can get!

SPECIAL THANKS

We’d like to thank all the friends and family who have inspired and supported our passion for music; we couldn’t have made this without you. Many thanks to our Sutler Saloon family who had to hear these songs ad nauseam; especially Sean Coyle and Drew Andre. Special thanks to Kazuri Arai and Vance Powell for sharing top secret technologies and sound guru Nathan Yarborough for using his mastery of the audio arts to bring this project to life. Lastly, we’d like to thank YOU for being a purveyor of good taste! We hope you enjoy these songs as much as we did pickin’ and singin’ em.
